KIEV, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and 86 others injured on Sunday after a large-scale Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital, a Kiev city official has said.
Thousands of rescuers, utility workers, and volunteers have been deployed to nearly 50 locations across the city to deal with the aftermath of the strikes, said Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev City Military Administration.
According to Ukraine's Air Force, Russia launched 600 drones and 90 missiles overnight on Sunday, with Kiev as the primary target.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the strike was in retaliation for Ukraine's "attacks against civilian targets on Russian territory."
The Russian Emergencies Ministry said 21 people died in a Ukrainian drone attack on a college dormitory in the Luhansk region on Friday. But Kiev denied responsibility, saying its forces strike only military facilities and objects used for military purposes in accordance with international humanitarian law. ■
