SUVA, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Despite increasing uncertainty in the global energy market due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, Fiji's electricity supply remains stable and secure, Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) said in a statement Saturday.

However, the company warned that prolonged global supply disruptions could eventually have adverse impacts.

Because Fiji relies on imported fuel for a portion of its energy, it is not immune to global supply disruptions and price volatility, EFL Chief Executive Fatiaki Gibson explained, reported Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.

Currently, around 50 to 55 percent of the country's electricity generation comes from renewables, with the remainder from thermal generation, Gibson said, adding that there are currently no immediate constraints on meeting electricity demand.

Meanwhile, EFL is taking proactive measures to manage risks, including optimizing hydro resources and considering alternative fuel generation. ■
