DHAKA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Six newborn babies are reported to have died at a hospital in the Bangladesh capital Dhaka in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The exact cause of the deaths remains unclear.
Sheikh Zahidul Islam, a senior Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) official, told journalists on Wednesday, "We've come to the hospital after receiving reports of the unnatural deaths of six children in the neonatal ward."
He said these children were one to two days old.
According to local media reports, extreme cold induced by air conditioning in the neonatal unit of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Dhaka may have led to the deaths of the newborns.
The DMP officer said that police officials have been dispatched to the hospital immediately to determine the actual cause of the deaths. ■
