ACCRA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 12 people were killed and two critically injured in a highway crash late Tuesday in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, according to local authorities.

Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred after a commercial minibus collided head-on with an articulated trailer along the Kumasi-Techiman highway.

Medical officials at Nkenkaasu Government Hospital confirmed on Wednesday that out of 14 casualties brought to the hospital, 12 were declared dead on arrival, with two others in critical condition.

The hospital officials added that the bodies of the dead had been deposited at the hospital's morgue, awaiting identification.

Police said an investigation is underway to unravel the cause of the accident. ■
