BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.96 percent to 4,152.57 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.66 percent higher at 15,856.61 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices totaled 3.2 trillion yuan (about 468.5 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 2.92 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Sectors such as chips, computing hardware, coal and liquor led the gains, while oil and gas extraction services, batteries and chemicals were among the top decliners.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.1 percent to close at 4,021.16 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 3.52 percent higher at 2,223.69 points. ■
