DUSHANBE, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The fourth high-level International Conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" (2018-2028), within the framework of the Dushanbe Water Process, kicked off in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe on Monday.
The event runs through Thursday, focusing on further mobilizing collective efforts and supporting the implementation of voluntary commitments registered in the UN 2023 Water Conference's Water Action Agenda, as well as stimulating new partnerships and accelerating actions to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
With topics like sustainable water resources management and glacier protection on the agenda, the conference gathers heads of state and government, representatives from UN entities, other international and regional organizations, financial and scientific institutions, and civil societies. Organizers said over 110 official delegations have confirmed their participation.
The Dushanbe Water Process is an initiative aimed at supporting the implementation of the objectives of the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" via a series of conferences, convened every two years by the Tajik government in close cooperation with the United Nations. ■
