TEHRAN/DOHA, May 25 (Xinhua) -- A high-level Iranian delegation arrived in Doha on Monday for talks with Qatari officials on a possible peace agreement with the United States, according to Iran's semi-official Mehr News Agency.

The visit by the delegation, which includes Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, among others, aims to advance diplomatic efforts mediated by Pakistan in recent weeks to end the "war of aggression imposed" by the United States and Israel against Iran, Mehr said.

During the visit, Ghalibaf is expected to meet with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on bilateral issues as well as negotiations to end the war and lift sanctions, Mehr said in a separate report.

According to Mehr, Iran's Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati is also part of the delegation to discuss the potential release of frozen Iranian funds as part of a final agreement.

Meanwhile, a Qatari source told Xinhua that discussions could focus on the security of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's stockpile of highly-enriched uranium, and the issue of frozen Iranian assets held abroad.

Iran and the United States reached a ceasefire on April 8 after 40 days of fighting. Following the truce, they held one round of peace talks in Pakistan's Islamabad on April 11 and 12, which failed to yield an agreement.

Over the past weeks, the two sides reportedly exchanged several proposed plans outlining conditions for peace through Pakistan's mediation. ■
