MADRID, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Marc-Andre ter Stegen's injury problems continued after Girona said the 33-year-old goalkeeper suffered a muscle injury during its 1-0 defeat to Oviedo on Saturday.

Ter Stegen arrived on loan from Barcelona less than two weeks ago to try to get match practice and ensure a place in the German World Cup squad for the summer.

However, misfortune has struck after just two appearances for his new club.

"Marc-Andre ter Stegen has a left hamstring injury sustained during Saturday's match against Oviedo. The player will undergo further medical tests to determine the diagnosis and prognosis," Girona said in a statement.

The club has not said how long he will be out of action, although a hamstring injury usually means a four-week layoff. However, the Barcelona-based press has speculated that the injury is more serious and could require an operation, in which case Ter Stegen's absence will be measured in months rather than weeks, putting his World Cup place in serious danger. ■
